What happens during a mobile tyre fitting?

A plain-English walkthrough of a mobile tyre fitting callout — from the first phone call to a real ETA, the work on your driveway, and an all-in price before the van moves.

A mobile tyre fitting is simple from your side: you stay put, and the garage comes to you. The Tyre Soldier is a mobile tyre fitter run by Matt and Keri, based in Dundee, covering Tayside, Perthshire and Fife. Here is exactly what happens from the first phone call to the van pulling away.

1. You get in touch

Call or WhatsApp us on 07449 206 581. We’re available 24/7, so it doesn’t matter if it’s the school run, the middle of a work shift or late at night on the hard shoulder.

Tell us:

  • What’s happened — a flat, a slow puncture, uneven wear, or you just want fresh rubber
  • Your tyre size (it’s on the sidewall, e.g. 205/55 R16) or your registration so we can look it up
  • Where the car is and whether it’s at home, at work or stuck at the roadside

If it’s a puncture, we’ll talk through whether a puncture repair is the safer, cheaper option before fitting anything new.

2. We confirm the price before we move

This is the part that catches people out with some fitters. Before the van is dispatched, we confirm one all-in price — call-out, the tyre itself, fitting, balancing, VAT and payment all in the one figure. No surprise extras when we arrive.

We source any brand or budget through local trade suppliers, so you can pick what suits the car and your wallet. If you’d rather spread the cost, Payment Assist 0% APR finance is available, subject to status. Happy with the number? We head your way. You can get a quote here to get the ball rolling.

3. We give you a real ETA

We’ll tell you roughly when to expect us. Where the route allows, that’s typically within about 90 minutes — but we’d rather give you an honest window than a number we can’t hit. If we’re held up, you’ll hear from us.

4. We turn up with a full workshop

The van carries the same kit as a fixed garage: a tyre changer, a dynamic wheel balancer and TPMS reset tools. That means everything happens on your driveway with no compromise on the quality of the job.

On arrival we’ll:

  • Check the wheel and confirm we’ve got the right tyre for it
  • Loosen the wheel, lift the car safely and take the wheel off
  • Strip the old tyre off the rim and fit the new one
  • Balance the wheel on the dynamic balancer so there’s no vibration through the steering
  • Reset the TPMS (tyre pressure sensor) where the car has one
  • Refit the wheel, torque it correctly and set the pressure

5. You pay on the van and we’re gone

When the job’s done, you pay by card right there on the van — at the price we agreed, with nothing added. We tidy up, take the old tyre away for recycling, and that’s you sorted.

You don’t have to stand and watch the whole time. As long as we can reach the wheels and sort the keys, you can stay inside or get on with work while we crack on.

Where we’ll come to you

We cover roughly everywhere within 25 miles of Perth, Pitlochry or Dundee — that’s Tayside, Perthshire (including Highland Perthshire up the A9 to Pitlochry) and Fife. Not sure if you’re in range? Check the areas we cover or just ask when you call.

That’s the whole job: an honest price up front, a real ETA, proper garage kit on your driveway, and card payment when it’s done. To book or ask anything, call or WhatsApp 07449 206 581 — any time, day or night.

Common questions

Do I need to be with the car?

It helps if someone can let us in to the car and confirm where it's parked, but you don't have to stand and watch. As long as we can get to the wheels and the keys are sorted, you can carry on with your day.

How long does a mobile tyre fitting take?

Once we're with you, a straightforward set of one or two tyres usually takes well under an hour. Awkward access or a full set takes a little longer.

Where can you fit tyres?

At your home, your work car park or at the roadside — anywhere we can safely reach the wheels and work around the vehicle across Tayside, Perthshire and Fife.
